The Oscar nominated actress BRENDA BLETHYN reads a six-part abridgement of Ethel Lina White’s classic 1930’s railway thriller THE LADY VANISHES.
Best known as the basis for Hitchcock´s classic early film, The Lady Vanishes, Ethel Lina White´s novel “The Wheel Spins” (later renamed as “The Lady Vanishes” following the popularity of Hitchcock’s movie) is a gripping and accomplished work in its own right. The plot is deceptively simple, and the premise – a woman meets an engaging stranger during a long railway journey who later disappears leading to mystery and deception – is classic. It´s easy to see why Hitchcock found this novel so compelling and so well-suited to his particular brand of filmmaking.
Read by one of the UK’s most popular actresses, the twice Oscar nominated Brenda Blethyn, “The Lady Vanishes” promises to take you on a thrilling journey – asking not just who-dunnit, but why and how!
Iris Carr, a young Englishwoman, is returning home from a holiday in Europe. Little does she know that before long her journey will be full of mystery, deception, confusion and danger!
Iris befriends English governess Miss Froy. But after awakening from a sunstroke-induced sleep, Iris discovers that Miss Froy has disappeared and no-one else remembers her!
The Governess, the Doctor, the Professor, Max Hare and even Edna Barnes all believe that Iris must have been imagining the mysterious Miss Froy. Iris herself is beginning to doubt whether she has been mistaken.
Now that Frau Kummer has been identified as the missing Miss Froy, Iris Carr is left all alone in her conviction that something is dreadfully amiss. But she is determined to prove that she has been right all along.
It would appear that Edna Barnes has not only lied about the missing Miss Froy, but has her own secret that she is hiding not just from her travelling companions but from her husband as well!
Iris Carr is at the end of her tether, with all her allies lost and time running out – she simply has to prove that the mysterious bandaged patient is the missing Miss Froy – no matter what the risk!
Our audiobooks download as zipped files (due to their size and for your convenience). Once unzipped you will find all of the mp3 files for your audiobook named, and in correct file order. Due to the way Apple has designed iOS, iPhones and iPads don’t recognise these zip files automatically (unlike Android devices). So, if you buy one of our titles via your iPhone or iPad, there are two ways to find and listen to your files:
Download for FREE iZip for iOS – then download the audiobook using the link provided either on the webpage or the email we sent you. After the file has downloaded click on the Open With option and choose iZip. The app will open and ask if you want it to unzip all the files, say yes. A minute or so later you will have a list of mp3 files in order, and you just need to tap on the one you want to play and it will start playing in the Audioplayer. You can easily play, pause, jump forward or back.
Slightly easier – download the zip file to your PC or MAC, unzip it to a folder you know the location of (such as your Music or Documents folder), then use iTunes to transfer the files in the same way you would a music album.
We hope you enjoy your audiobook and come back for more soon!
